Metabolic Screening
What is Metabolic Screening
Metabolic screening is a comprehensive assessment designed to analyse how efficiently your body uses energy both during physical activity, and while at rest. By evaluating key factors such as your lactate threshold, VO₂ max, and resting metabolic rate, we can get a detailed understanding of how your body produces and utilises energy.
During exercise, metabolic screening can reveal the intensity at which your body shifts from aerobic to anaerobic energy production, helping you pinpoint the optimal zones for your training and performance.
When metabolic screening is done at rest (resting metabolic rate or RMR), it measures the amount of energy (calories) your body uses at rest. This can offer crucial insights for creating personalised nutrition and fitness plans.
Maximise Performance
Training Zones
Determine your optimal heart rate and intensity zones based on ventilatory and lactate thresholds, enabling you to accurately target specific intensities to enhance aerobic capacity, anaerobic power, and overall performance.
Aerobic Efficiency
Discover how efficient your body uses oxygen and clears lactic acid to delay fatigue and enhance your performance.
Breathing Mechanics
Understand your breathing patterns through ventilation metrics during sub-maximal and maximal intensities.
Enhanced Recovery
By identifying your specific training zones, oxygen utilisation, and breathing patterns, you can develop targeted recovery strategies to enhance recovery both during and after exercise.
Fuel Utilisation
Gain insight into how your body utilises fats and carbohydrates during exercise, allowing you to create customised nutrition and fuelling strategies that optimise energy production and support sustained performance.
Personalised Nutrition
Understanding your resting metabolic rate (RMR) allows you to adjust your diet to match your individual energy requirements. This can help you achieve body composition goals and maintain a healthy weight for optimal performance.
Technologies
At Potential Performance, we use the ‘gold standard’ of technologies to ensure accurate metabolic screening. The Cortex MetaLyser 3B is a state-of-the-art portable metabolic analysis system, designed for precise measurement of respiratory gas exchange during exercise and at rest. It provides real-time data on key metrics such as oxygen uptake (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2), and respiratory exchange ratio (RER). This enables accurate assessment of an athlete's ventilatory thresholds, metabolic efficiency, and energy substrate utilisation.
Metabolic Screening- Assessment Options
-
Assesses the maximum amount of oxygen you can utilise during intense exercise. Training thresholds (aerobic capacity) based on heart rate, your ventilation response to various exercise intensities and the efficiency of your cardio-respiratory system will be measured and provided in a detailed report summary.
-
Measuring blood lactate levels at various exercise intensities provides insights into your anaerobic threshold. Results will identify the intensity at which lactate begins to accumulate rapidly, indicating the shift from aerobic to anaerobic metabolism and how efficient you are at clearing lactic acid through increasing intensities.
-
Resting Metabolic Rate is the amount of energy your body needs to perform essential physiological functions. This assessment provides valuable insights in order to create personalised nutrition plans that align with your energy needs to ensure optimal performance and recovery.
-
Designed for individuals of all fitness levels, from recreational to elite athletes looking to optimise athletic performance.
